The mainline idler pulley is used where the mainline scrapes heavily against the ground. Heavy wear and tear on the mainline can thus be avoided. The mainline idler pulley is suspended with two arrestor cables on the supports and supporting mast and fixed or bolted to the ground with an anchor cable.
